Fade In

INT. – COLLEGE CORRIDOR – MORNING

LEWIS is walking casually down the corridor, with his hands inside his trouser pockets. He is humming to himself. ARCHIE turns into the corridor. He walks towards LEWIS.

ARCHIE
You may think you’re all that with your youtube acts and your films, but I’m not buying any of it.

LEWIS
Stan, back off.

ARCHIE
Archie.

LEWIS
My apologies. (pauses) I shall never back down to you, thy beast!

ARCHIE
Did you just quote yourself?

LEWIS (reluctantly)
Yes.

ARCHIE
(rolls up his sleeves) You need to be taught a lesson.

LEWIS
Oh, yeah? (also rolls up his sleeves) Bring it on!

Cut to
EXT. – QUAD – MORNING

CODY and MEGAN are sitting at a table, talking to each other. LEWIS walks backwards out of the building with his fists raised into the air. ARCHIE walks after him, also with his fists in the air.

LEWIS
Think you’re so tough, do ya? Take this.

LEWIS takes another step back. CODY and MEGAN spot them both arguing.

CODY (sighing)
Oh, great.

CODY and MEGAN get to their feet and run over to ARCHIE and LEWIS, who are still arguing.

MEGAN
Break it up, guys.

LEWIS
(points to ARCHIE) I’m watching you.

LEWIS turns and walks away. CODY stares at ARCHIE as he straightens himself out.

CODY
Why can’t you just stay away from him?

ARCHIE
He started it.

CODY (angrily)
How am I expected to believe that? All the time, I’m always sticking up for you. I’m not gonna do it anymore. I’m out, Arch.

CODY turns and he walks away. MEGAN walks after him.

Cut to
INT. - OUTSIDE THE COLLEGE HALL - MORNING

ARCHIE is sitting alone at a bench, thinking to himself. RACHEL comes storming towards him.

ARCHIE
(gets to his feet) Hi.

RACHEL
(slaps ARCHIE across the face) I can’t believe you tried to beat up Lewis! You should be ashamed of yourself.

ARCHIE
I’m sorry.

RACHEL
Just stay away from us.

RACHEL turns and walks away, leaving ARCHIE standing on his own.

Cut to
INT. - DRAMA ROOM - MORNING

CODY and MEGAN are standing in the middle of the room, each with a copy of a script in their hands. CODY stands with his back to MEGAN.

CODY
I’m sorry. I shouldn’t keep messing it up. (pauses)

MEGAN
Why do you hang around with Archie? He’s a complete arsehole.

CODY
We’ve known each other for years. He’s changed so much since we started here. (turns to face MEGAN) Let’s go again.

Cut to
INT. - JOHN’S CLASSROOM - AFTERNOON

JOHN is sitting at his desk, reading through a folder. There is a knock on the door. JOHN looks up as ARCHIE steps inside the room.

ARCHIE
Hi.

JOHN
The last person I expected to see here. (faces ARCHIE) What can I do for you?

ARCHIE
(stands at JOHN’S desk) I was hoping that you could help me with the coursework. (opens his rucksack and brings out a folder) If you wouldn’t mind.

JOHN
Let me see.

ARCHIE hands the folder to JOHN, who reads through it.

ARCHIE
I’m sorry. For the way I’ve been speaking to you.

JOHN
(faces ARCHIE) Oh, my. Something must’ve happened.

ARCHIE smiles awkwardly.

Cut to
INT. - OUTSIDE THE COLLEGE HALL - AFTERNOON

ARCHIE is laying on his skateboard, staring up at the ceiling. CODY walks up the stairs. He sees ARCHIE laying on the skateboard and sits on the bench next to him.

CODY
Tough day?

ARCHIE sits up, facing CODY.

ARCHIE
I’ve messed things up and for that, I’m sorry. Today made me realise that I don’t have many friends. (pauses) Actually, I think you’re my only friend.

ARCHIE opens his rucksack. He brings out a folder and hands it to CODY, who looks through it.

CODY
You went to get it sorted.

ARCHIE
He thinks I could get a C with it.

CODY
That’s pretty impressive.

ARCHIE
I’m sorry. It’s not too late, is it?

CODY (smiling)
No.

ARCHIE gets to his feet.

CODY (continued)
Where are you going?

ARCHIE
There’s someone I gotta talk to.

ARCHIE walks down the stairs.

Cut to
INT. - DRAMA ROOM - AFTERNOON

MEGAN is sitting at a table, reading through her lines from the script. ARCHIE walks inside the room.

ARCHIE
Hey. I know I’ve been out of order to you and for that I wanted to say I was sorry.

MEGAN
It’s okay.

ARCHIE
I promise I’ll act better from now on.

Cut to
EXT. – STREET – AFTERNOON

CODY and MEGAN are walking slowly down the street, talking to each other. They have their rucksacks on their backs.

MEGAN
Archie came and apologised to me earlier. You didn’t have anything to do with that, did you?

CODY (casually)
What gives you that idea?

MEGAN
I told you I didn’t like him, then like an hour later, he comes and asks if we could be friends. Funny that...
